Sub Domain

I have a client using WordPress.com for their hosting, server, and registrar.

I am redesigning their website. I go into the client’s DNS records to set up a subdomain, where I can create the new redesign. However, the subdomain redirects me to the primary domain.

Normally, my clients have their hosting or registrar with Godaddy or Bluehost – and creating a subdomain there does not redirect me back to the primary website. It basically let’s me create a new website.

How can I achieve this through WordPress.com?

    Thanks in Advance

Please provide the exact URL starting with http:// for the actual site you refer to.

If you are referring to a site hosted on wordpress.COM servers then this support doc may be helpful http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-subdomain/

Map a subdomain (for a domain with an existing website) to your WordPress.com blog – if you already have a website you don’t want to affect, and you want to add a blog to it under a subdomain (for example, blog.yourgroovydomain.com).

  • Hi there,

I see no sites in your account that has a custom domain attached, and even if you were a user on the site, only the owner of the domain can make DNS changes, so you’d need to be logged into the account that purchased the domain or domain mapping upgrade to make this change.

Additionally, if the root domain is already mapped to WordPress.com, you won’t be able to map a subdomain to a different WordPress.com site. When the root is mapped here, we add a wildcard CNAME that redirects all possible subdomains to the root, and it’s not possible to override that.
