Sub-domain mapping not working

  • Unknown's avatar

I have set up a sub-domain mapping for my blog at thomasdotarildsendotorg.wordpress.com (from thomas.arildsen.org). In the domain name control panel, the domain is now listed as active, so it seems the CNAME record is now set up correctly. When I now visit thomas.arildsen.org, it just displays a completely blank page. Explicitly visiting thomasdotarildsendotorg.wordpress.com just shows the same blank page now (and the address in the browser changes to thomas.arildsen.org – I guess because I set this as the primary domain). Can you help me diagnose the problem. The settings look right to me. Your Domain Helper also shows that the CNAME record is set correctly and that the primary domain is set to thomas.arildsen.org.

It seems to be working now. Maybe some DNS details just needed a bit longer to trickle through?

  • Hey Thomas,

Sorry about the delay; your response pushed the thread back to the bottom of the stack. Yes—DNS changes can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 72 hours depending on the settings (TTL, or the record’s “time to live”) with the nameservers.

Most of the time, 2-12 hours is most common that I’ve seen in the wild.

If you have any other questions or if there is anything else we can do for you, please let me know!
