Sub-domain – Only the owner of the domain can map its subdomains
-
Hi,
We’re trying to connect the subdomain https://help.ourdomain to helptaxlab.wpcomstaging.com. Unfortunately, when attempting to connect using “Use a domain I own,” we received the message, “Only the owner of the domain can map its subdomains.” Despite following https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-subdomain/, we’ve not been able to proceed further or provide the required authorization code.

I have emailed the support team using the portal twice but have gotten no reponse :(
Thank you
Sunny

Hey there @sunny7953b3fa89, are you able to continue past that? It’s true that only the owner can set up subdomains, since you’ll need to add DNS settings (a CNAME) for it to work correctly. For example we might have someone try to connect
theirname.cat.com, but they can’t use that unless they own, and can modify settings forcat.com. If it’s not letting you past that though, please let us know! We can email if needed. Also, this is asking you to connect a domain to a specific site. Are you trying to create a different site under the subdomain? Let us know and we can recommend accordingly. Thanks!
