sub items in twenty thirteen
-
I can’t create sub items. i already tried deleting cookies, force shutdown etc and it didn’t work. when i try to make a ‘sub item’ from a ‘post’ under a ‘page’ in ‘Menu 1’ in ‘Appearance – Menus’ and I click ‘Save menu’ it just saves as a ‘Page’.
I want ‘Ekstraordinært beboermøde 30.05.2013’ to be a ‘sub item’ under ‘Begivenheder’ and not a ‘page’ as it is right now.
I use the ‘twenty thirteen’ theme and the blog is called http://koegemarken.wordpress.com/
i would love it if you would please take a look and help me fix it :)
thanx,

I see what you mean and I have the same issue with Twenty Thirteen on my test blog with this theme so I tagged this thread for Themes Staff attention. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.
-
Sweet! Thanx :) I already subscribe I think so that would be just perfect with staff help.
It was weird though because I did add 5 or 6 sub items to one page one day but when I wanted to do the same to another page the next day, and ever since, I haven’t been able to.

Could you try with a different theme also, to see if it’s a wider Menus issue or just related to this one theme? Thank you.
-
I switched to Twenty Eleven in my test blog and the sub-menus are working in it but not in Twenty Thirteen.

Hi again louiseelsted — are you adding the new menu items under “Links”?
To add a menu item that points to a post you’ll need to go to Appearance > Menus then find the “Links” section. Add the post URL in the first box, then the text you’d like as the menu label next, and click “Add to Menu”. Then move it as a submenu as you wish, then save the menu.
Was that how you were adding the posts to the menu?
@timethief You tried this?
-
Hi Lance,
It’s been more than a week and I cannot recall details. However, I do know how to create custom menus and I do actually use my test blog before posting so I’ll say “yes”. -
@timethief Cool, yeah—sorry for the delay but when I came back to update the thread I realized I totally misread the initial bug report. So wanted to confirm you’d tried to add a post to a menu, because I didn’t try that before. I thought it was a visual display bug (submenu not appearing in the front-end menu).
I just tried it with a Twenty Thirteen test blog and it worked, so I’m pretty sure that this report not something broken in Twenty Thirteen, but probably with Menus in general.
Menus are a core feature of WordPress so as a general rule you wouldn’t see them behave differently in wp-admin based on the active theme. Unless it’s a visual display bug on the front-end—in which case it’s most definitely theme related. ;)

@lance
Okay. I tried again in my test blog and added a post as a custom menu link. It is titled “test post image caption” (sub-item). This is the URL http://leosquared.wordpress.com/2011/08/05/test-post-image-caption/ and should be displaying under home here http://leosquared.wordpress.com/home/ but it isn’t. -
@timethief Looks like it’s a private blog. ;)
I made a test here: http://lancetestmanifest.wordpress.com/, the post link should show up under “Home” menu item.
(Double-check that you’ve set the menu you’re editing as “active” for “Navigation Menu” in Twenty Thirteen.)
-
Cool. What’s important is that we are on the same <del>menu</del> page. :)
Now we can see if louiseelsted still has troubles … and go from there.
@timethief Thanks for working through it with me.

I apologize for being so inept the first go round. You’re welcome and I’d be pleased to help you anytime. Best wishes. -
hi Lance :)
That is not how I was adding the posts at all!. Now I can even move the ‘page’ items as sub-items so something else must not have been working or I may not have been paying attention to the ‘active’ for ‘Navigation Menu’-thing either ;)
But I can see that I don’t have to use the link description you mention to add posts as sub-items….?? A bit confused but hey, as long as it works, right? ;)
Thanx so much for your help, you’re a peach :)
