Subcategories not showing on Categories maintenance screen
-
Hello. I’m using iTheme2 and having 2 problems with Subcategories after setting up a few for the first time.
(1) The Subcategories do not show on the Categories maintenance screen. How do I get to these so I can edit, delete, etc.?
(2) The Categories Widget does not honor the “show hierarchy” flag, which I set under Appearance -> Widget -> Categories). Note: Subcategories show on the Category Widget in alpha order but at the same level as Categories. Should be nesting with flag set.
That said, Subcategories are nesting properly using the Menu widget. Is there something I’m doing wrong or have I run into a bug.
Many thanks for your help.

Howdy, thanks for the report of this. We’re taking a look at the details and will keep you posted. At first glance it looks like you may have run into a small bug.

This should be all sorted out now. All your categories are appearing for me at Posts > Categories now. Thanks for the patience!

Absolutely awesome.
The Subcategories are showing on the Categories maintenance screen. Small note: I had to re-associate the subs with their parent – this connection apparently got lost in the process. Easy fix and worked properly.
The Category Widget, set to Dropdown and Show Hierarchy, now nests the Subcategories under the proper Category. Fixed.
Many thanks Andrew Spittle!!!! I’m happy happy!!!
Incidently, I’m having the time of my life with your product. I’m not a trained InfoTech guy, mostly self taught. Not that familiar with HTML, although I did somehow get my son’s first website up 10 years ago. Don’t remember a thing. Your product is sweeeeeeet! I’m up and running in minutes.

Oh I’m sorry – thought you were talking to me. My problem is in Menus – it doesn’t allow me to drag and drop my items to the right to create my sub-menus. When I save they fall back. I was refered to this conversation

I’m so sorry that I made this mistake. Drag and drop issues are usually browser issues. Will you please provide us with some details so we can try to help you?1. How are you connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com? The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers.
2. Are you using http:// or https:// see http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
3.Which browser and version of it are you using?
4. Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
5. Is your browser version up to date? You can upgrade any browser version here.
6. Do you have third party cookies enabled?
7. Do you have JavaScript enabled?
8. Do you have another browser you can try?

Also note that not all themes provide for sub-categories and sub-page drop downs from Categories tabs and Page tabs in the horizontal menu. To achieve that we create a custom menu.
You need:
(1) a clear comprehension of the differences between pages and posts > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
(2) a clear comprehension of the fact that there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page. But we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.We organize our posts by assigning Categories to them. When we publish a post it automatically appears on the running page for posts and also on the Categories pages and Archives pages. Note: There must be one published post in each Category in order for there to be anything to display.
A custom menu allows you to display Categories with drop-downs to sub-categories in tabs along the horizontal navigation where normally only Pages tabs are displayed. If you wish you can also include Pages with drop-downs to sub-pages and/or custom links in your custom menu as well. You are in charge of what appears in a custom menu. You choose the order in which to display any and/or all the foregoing in your custom menu. You choose which to display and which to hide. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus
