Subcategory not showing up, although I have a post published in it
-
Hi guys n gals!
I often heard about the problem that ones categories dont show up. Of course, no posts in them they will hide. I have a category from a howto. My HowTo:
MAIN
– Howto
– Part 1
– Part 2
– Part 2a
– Part 5
– Part 5a (THIS ONE IS NOT SHOWING, ALTHOUGH I HAVE A POST IN IT!)Anyone has an idea about that?
Thank you in advance your answers are welcome!Regards!
Markus. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No one can have an idea about that without a link to the blog in question – the one linked to your username is empty.

a) Seems to be an issue with the theme you’re using: I replicated the situation in my tests blog, and when I switched to another theme (I mean one that also displays categories by default in the top menu) all the children and grandchildren categories were there.
b) Categories are supposed to be groups of posts. Why are you turning the title of a single post into a category? Doesn’t make sense.

Hmm personal preference. I like it that way and I also publish the parts of the howto in a different order than 1,2,3,4….and so on.
So switching to a different theme will fix that? Or can the theme be fixed somehow?
Thanks for your answers!

a) Personal preference or not, it doesn’t make sense! If what you’re interested in is the dropdown, you can create and activate a custom menu. Custom menus can include tabs for posts. See here:
http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/b) Very few themes display categories in their default top menu like Enterprise does. So if you switch to a different theme, you’ll probably need to create a custom menu anyway, so there’s no need to switch. A custom menu will always display what you tell it to display.
c) You can post about the issue in the Themes forum. The WP theme team monitor this forum, they’ll see your post, and if there’s something that needs fixing in the theme they’ll fix it.

Sorry no offense here, but tuning cars doesnt make sense for other people for example, for some it does. If it is nonsense, then why does it work in other themes?
I switched the theme, its fine now! Thanks for the tip!
Next time I will use the Themes thread for this, sorry first time writing here.Regards!

Whether or not it’s nonsense, it can get your entire blog excluded from the Global Tag Pages. Staff don’t like it when a blog uses categories or tags that are unique to it. I have something like 300 categories and only a few are unique to my blog.

Hey i dint want to blame anybody or so, if its not against any rules og mmf wordpress its okay i think.

Thanks for supporting! -
@zool85:
It doesn’t make sense because a post category is by definition a group of related posts, not a single post. But this objection of mine was just an opinion: you can do as you please – it’s your blog, not mine! I raised the objection because I thought you did this so you could have the dropdown you wanted, and explained that you can achieve that without resorting to grandchild categories that aren’t really categories.
And you didn’t post in the wrong forum: I directed you to the Themes forum after I found out that this might be a glitch in this particular theme.
