Subdomain change to Subfolder (blog.printuk.com to printuk.com/blog)
-
Hi There
I own the website PrintUK.com and i also have a blog with you https://blog.printuk.com having read into SEO a lot and taking professional advice I need to change the blog.printuk.com (subdomain) to printuk.com/blog (subfolder).
The reason is only for SEO purposes where apparently there is quite a dramatic effect.
So please can you let me know how i can achieve that change.Just one question about this change i’m asking for: Will this affect the people who currently follow my blog or will it just redirect them?
Note: I want to keep the hosting of my website with my current provider.
Please can you help. Or if possible rename the URL on your side.
kind regards
ThomasThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sorry no can do, WordPress.COM only supports domain mapping to a sub-domain (blog.printuk.com), they do not support domain mapping to a sub-folder (printuk.com/blog)
Where did you find the sub-domains are SEO death info?
To do what you want – you would need to install the WordPress.ORG software on your web site, transfer the contents to the new blog – don’t know if the forward traffic would send to a folder, but at any rate – you would take a SEO hit for the change in address for a while as search engines get used to the new address

Hi, thanks for getting back to me.
Ahh, thats annoying that wordpress don’t support the mapping.
RE: SEO death info, the link below is is one of the posts that originally drew my attention to the topic before looking into further and lots of other people have said the same.

So do you think it is it worth installing the wordpress.org software and changing the subdomain into a subfolder?

Thanks for the link – this is the first time I have seen that statement – I see @timethief is in the forum – maybe she has an observation as she watches the SEO stuff very closely
As to the moving part – I just don’t know – having your site here and domain mapped is the simplest and easiest and you don’t need to learn the fine print of WordPress.ORG installs & maintaining them
