Subdomain Mapping

I purchased my organization’s domain name from Gandi.net. Our site is on WordPress are we are using WordPress’s domain name servers. We would like to have the subdomain http://drc.ohiogodort.org point users to a non-WordPress site. Gandi said we’d need “to ask WordPress to modify [our] domain’s zone file to add an entry for the drc subdomain to point somewhere other than WordPress.” How would we go about getting our subdomain mapped?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Does this help?

On WordPress.com, you can use a subdomain of a domain that you already own as your blog’s domain. For instance, if you already have a website up at example1.com, and your WordPress.com blog is at example2.wordpress.com, you can put your blog in a subdomain of that website, such as blog.example1.com. This is called Domain Mapping. Your old WordPress.com address will still work, but we will automatically redirect traffic from your old address to your new one. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-subdomain/

Since http://ohiogodort.org/ is on wordpress.com your name servers are pointing to wordpress.com. In your control panel go to domains and next to ohiogodort.org there should be an option “edit dns”.

You will have to add an entry

CNAME drc <the non wordpress domain name>

When you have done this validate then save these records.

Thank you very much for your replies.

I have a question for tandava108. Would that be the WordPress control panel or the Gandi.net control panel?

Once again, thanks for your help!

On the WordPress control panel, because you have pointed your name servers to wordpress.com. As soon as you do that the control of all the domain records is via the wordpress console
