SubMenu items not saving, all goes to top level upon saving
-
I am trying to change the menu so that I have About, Recipes, and Words as the Top Level items with Recipes having sub-items from the categories of Tricks, Tried It, and Gluten-Free. However, after making these categories into sub-items it automatically makes everything top level. I did not create a new menu, but did rename the default menu. I have the Automatically add new top-level pages to this menu and Primary Menu options checked.
For a bit of a visual example it should be:
About
Recipes
–Tricks
–Tried It
–Gluten Free
WordsThanks ahead of time!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Apostrophe theme is showing only child pages in the sub-menu.
As category pages are created automatically by WordPress, there is no way to set a parent for them so you can’t have sub-menus.

Hi there – you need to drag your sub-menu items over to have the displayed as you want. Right now, all your menu items are set as top-level items, as you can see here:
One at a time, drag your three desired sub-menu items slightly to the right so they are indented. When you’re done, click the “Savce” button. That should create a sub-menu.

Let me know how it goes.

If you have tried dragging the items to the right already, could you let me know if you were using the WP Admin editor here:

…or the new editor with the blue background? Thanks!

Yes, I have dragged them over. I’ve done it about four times. I am using the one you linked to. I haven’t changed to the new way to post or anything yet and am using the free account so no changes such as customization.

That’s definitely very odd. I just saved the menu with sub-items and it looks like it saved correctly – have a look.
If this happens again, you might want to try temporarily turning off any extensions in your browser to see if something is conflicting with the menu functionality:

Yeah I just saw that and was a bit confused and wondered if you had done anything. I use Chrome, but I will have to see what all I have on the netbook once the 19 Windows updates are done if it is ever done (next week at this rate).

In case you’re curious, the netbook is running Windows Starter 7 and I haven’t disabled any yet to try it, but I have five extensions: Add to Amazon Wish List, Evernote Web Clipper, Google Cast, Join Tabs, and Pin It Button. I just deleted a Tweetdeck one that didn’t work correctly anyway. I try not to load up my browsers with extensions and mostly only those from official sources or a few other sources I trust.
Thanks!

Alright, good to know!
I forgot to mention that on my end, I saved your menu in Firefox 39 on Mac OS 10.9.5.

The netbook had Chrome 44.0.2403.81 beta-m, but I just updated it. I generally grab it as it is easier to use around the 2 y/o than my MacBook Pro is (and I’d care less if he broke it).

Huh, I realized how I missed this. I did not set the Primary Menu under Manage Locations tab. Now I can see the sub menu items.
@texasrobin Apologies for misleading you.
@kathrynwp Thank you :)

chaitanyamsv,
Ah, thanks. I was a bit confused since I didn’t have any child pages and I know you can have submenus and thought maybe there’s another way of using categories he’s thinking of that I’m not or he has tags and categories mixed up since there is no heirarchy to tags trying to figure out what you were talking about. :-)
