Submit

    How do I add a box above my categories so people can submit a post?

    Thanks!!

  • Unknown's avatar

    I do not know what you mean. Bloggers make posts and readers read and comment on them. A submit box for readers to submit posts is not usual. Normally every post a blogger makes has comments boxes for readers to reply to in and there is no “submit post” box in sidebars. Can you explain more fully what you mean?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I guess I meant ther is not anything that lets readers submit new posts.

    Normally it’s the blogger who writes the posts. But if you want readers to contact you and send you posts then you could simply display an email address for them to use. I have yahoo email accounts for my blogs so readers can contact me.

    The blogger has no way of submitting a post is what I’m trying to say, if you look on the site you can’t start a new post.

    The “back” of your blog so to speak is where you write a post. Click on “Dashboard” on the blue navigation bar at the top of your blog. Now you’re in the Administration panel of your blog and not on the “front” side that your readers see.
    Go to your Dashboard -> Write -> Write Post

    I understand that part, I mean how do visitors post a new topic?

  • Unknown's avatar

    They don’t. They aren’t contemplated as doing that by either the blogging community or by blogging designers.
    On a forum visitors and members post new topics. A weblog or blog is not a forum.

  • Unknown's avatar

    I saw a blog that had that option.

    Then perhaps you should consider using their blogging software, instead. Allowing readers to post blog entries is highly unusual and really defeats the purpose of a blog. Consider forum software, instead.

    @waveryder
    I’m really unhappy that after asking you not to post the same thing into two separate threads yesterday that you now have posted the same thing in a third thread this morning.

    Please provide the link to the blog you saw this “readers submit posts” box on. Once you do we will then be able to tell you that you cannot post javascript, iframes or forms in text boxes in sidebar on wordpress.com blogs. The software will strip all such code out to maintain our security as here we are all blogging on a shared multi-user platform.

    sorry, I just can’t find someone who knows how to help me.

  • Unknown's avatar

    You cannot find anyone to help you because your request is both unusual and vague. Please post the link to the blog that has what you want (readers submit posts box in the sidebar) and then we will have something to work with. No one can help you unless you provide this.

    (1) If you post any javascript, iframes or forms in a sidebar in your blog the programming will strip it out to maintain security. And most if not all of the boxes you are describing fall into this category.

    (2) Unless and until you provide a link to the blog that has what you want depicted in it we cannot tell you if it the readers submits posts box that you want to insert into a text widget is javascripted or is an iframe or is a form or embed.

    Without the link we cannot answer your question :(

    “readers submit posts box in the sidebar”

    I think he might be talking about a shoutbox.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @devblog
    Maybe you’re right. Hopefully waveryder will click the link your provided and give us an indication if this is what he is seeking or not.
    For the most part, shoutboxes are embedded into a page with inline frames or JavaScript.

    @timethief,

    Yes, let’s see if this is what he wants. If it is, he’d be better off hosting his own blog in order to implement one of those annoying things. :D

    BTW, I don’t know if someone has already told you this, but thanks for the time you take helping others on these forums. Unfortunately, some people take things for granted and they think that members of a forum are obligated to answer their questions when in fact they do it voluntarily. I’m not saying this for any particular reason; it’s just that in the last few days that I’ve been visiting these forums, I’ve noticed that you are the most active member, and your willingness to help others as well as your courteous disposition is something that I couldn’t overlook.

    @devblog
    Thank you so much. That was such a kind thing to say that I’m crying … sheesh … where’s a hankie when you need one?
    P.S. One more day of bell ringing and drmike will be back. :)

    P.P.S. Perhaps he means a “forum”?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Maybe he means a wiki? And I second what devblog said. Between you and sunburntkamel, you seem ready to solve every problem on the forum, and always willing to help.

    On that note, I’m still single. Any ideas?

    Greets:

    To answer the original question, we do not have a method of allowing your visitors to submit their own articles to be posted. That’s more of a CMS like phpNuke instead of a blog like WordPress.

    Some of the themes have a built in Page labeled a contact form that may work for you. It puts a premade submit form on a Page for you. I believe Regulus has this.

    Hope this helps,
