Submitting podcast link to iTunes with an embedded mp3

    Hello,

I am totally new to this and I really am not sure what I am doing but I know what I would like to do. My goal is to host a podcast on my wordpress blog and submit it to iTunes for publishing.

I bought the extra storage space for $20 which enabled me to upload my mp3 file. I am able to play the file and listen to it on my computer and other devices (iPhone/iPad/PC.)

I am doing all of this using the free wordpress blog on a Mac.

The error I get when I submit the link to tuned is

“Error parsing feed: Invalid XML: Error on line 1: Content is not allowed in prolog”

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there! Have you yet tested your feed with iTunes?

I think this document will be really helpful:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/podcasting/

It has general podcasting setup info, as well as Feedburner and iTunes specific troubleshooting.

Let me know how those steps work out for you. I’m happy to help further.

    Hi,

Thank you very much! This was super helpful. However, I have spent all night troubleshooting other problems now.

The latest of which is that when I submit the feed to the iTunes store is get a “Podcast cover art must be at least 600 x 600 pixel JPG or PNG, in RGB color space and hosted on a server that allows HTTP head request.

    The feed is: http://aaaplusgames.wordpress.com/category/podcast/feed/

    The image location is: http://aaaplusgames.files.wordpress.com/2014/06/aaaplus-games-logo24.jpg

I made sure the image is 1400 x 1400. It shows up when I subscribe to the podcast in my iTunes but I do get some code that shows up where the podcast description should be. I am guessing wordpress is publishing this is some funky way but if it is I have no idea how to change it. I do not know how to edit http code or any other code for that matter.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I asked someone in the apple forums to check out my feed and they said:

“This isn’t a properly constructed podcast feed: it lacks the ‘itunes declaration’ in the second line and has no ‘tunes:…’ tags without which no image will appear, nor a subtitle or summary.

The image you link to is not referenced anywhere in the feed. You are seeing it when subscribing because it is embedded in the actual media file. The code you see in the description is in the ‘description’ tag and is a 1 x 1px image placed there for tracking purposes by WordPress. You shouldn’t have any code in a description or itunes subtitle/summary tag because iTunes will display it, not render it.

You need to do something in WordPress to make your feed itunes-compliant, but I’m afraid I can’t advise on how to do that. There is a plugin called Podpress which may help, but I don’t know anything about how it works.”

Not sure if there is something that can be done

    Hello there!

First issue is the broken feed:
You’ve added [/audio] to your audio file in your post. This breaks the feed. Remove that and you should be good to go.

Second issue is your cover art:
As WordPress.com is currently set up, you cannot include album art unless you use Feedburner. Those instructions are also in the Podcasting support document:

    Create a Podcast

Instead of connecting to iTunes with WordPress.com, you’ll set your album art, categories, etc, and then submit your Feedburner feed to iTunes.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers!
