Hi everyones, i’m new and i’m tring to set up a blog, but i have some problem with subpages (i loked to older posts but didn’t find a solution) here is the link: http://robertasegata.wordpress.com/photography/
In this parent page called photography i created a subpage called 2009 but when i click on it the pages doesn’t show up. Did i missed somenthing? I added the widget pages in the side bar, and i tried different ways, but nothing changed. The photography page have a picture on it and the subpage 2009+ have just a text saing “pagina prova”.
Have anyone some tips? Thanks in advance.

You will need to make your subpage permalink something like http://robertasegata.wordpress.com/photography/2009-images. Right now the name you have chosen is conflicting with some of the names for wordpress dynamically generated pages.
Open the 2009+ page in the editor and right under the title field, will be the permalink for the page. Click on the edit button on the right end and change the “2009” to “2009-images” then click save and then click “update page.”

Hi,
This is what i usually do..
The easiest way is..
1>First create a page by name “Photography”-then save and publish it
2>Create another page by name “2008”
3>On the right hand side of the page named “2008”(which you created in step 2),there will be “Attributes” panel which allows you to select the parent page for the current pages.–>Now you need to select the parent page “Photography” from the drop down menu for the current page “2008” .
4>Save and publish the page “2008”. -
Creating a subpage with a year conflicts with wordpress’s dynamically created page names and results in the actual subpage with the date as a title/permalink not appearing.
-
No issues with anything!!
I have SUCCESSFULLY DONE IT.
Check my blog
http://swathipradeep.wordpress.com -
Go into your 2009 subpage, and add some text so that it is different from the welcome page and then go to the welcome page and click the 2009 page link, or click it from the pages widget. You will NOT get the 2009 page you created.
-
Go here, http://flippintestblog.wordpress.com/ and do the following:
1. click on the photography page and read what it says
2. click on the 2009 subpage and you will see the same page as in 1 (the actual 2009 subpage says, “this is the 2009 subpage” but because of the conflict with the dynamic archiving things do not work correctly
3. click on the 2009 images subpage and you will actually get a different page.
-
You can keep the title of the page set to 2009, but the end part of the permalink cannot be just the year, it has to have something else such as “2009-images” or something similar or the conflict with the dynamic archiving trips you up.

Thank you for asking this question!! I was up until 2 am try to set up a new blog with different pages. It wasn’t until I had a couple of good hours of sleep I remembered the forum :( Dummy me! All is right with the world, my world at least, for now. Thanks again everyone.
-
@mar1nemom, you are welcome. I didn’t know it was an issue until this thread was started.
-
@thesacredpath thanks for your help now all works perfectly. I searched before inside the forum but i wasn’t able to find anything about this problem. Thanks again you saved my brain
@swathipradeep thanks for your answer, i already did what you suggested and didn’t work out, i was able to see the page in the side bar but didn’t able to go inside. It works perfectly the way thesacredpath suggested

Ok, this all does not work for me!!! I created a page: http://flugzeugbaufriedrichshafen.wordpress.com/das-projekt-ff33 and tried to add a subpage to this one. As discribed I added the subpage with the attribute “subpage to das-projekt-ff33”. Won’t show! Here is the link http://flugzeugbaufriedrichshafen.wordpress.com/das-projekt-ff33/fortschritt-ff33/ Anybody an idea???

To have links to the subpages show up, you will have to put he “pages” widget into your sidebar and then set the widget to show hierarchy. None of the wordpress.COM themes show subpages in the top navigation.
I hope I understood you correctly, if not please let us know.

I just did what you posted above since I am having this issue too. Is there anyway that if you go to the parent page, it will have links to the subpages under it or something like that? Or will you always have to click on the widget?
-
You can add links to the subpages yourself at the bottom or top of the page. There are a few themes here that will automatically show links to subpages on the parent page, but I don’t know which ones those are or how many there are.
It’s either that or the pages widget.

Ok. Thanks so much. I was trying to figure out how to fix this and it was driving me crazy!
-
Actually, Panos researched the subpage thing here: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/24/parent-page-links-to-child/ .

I’ve put the widget in the right column, but it lists all the pages (too much duplication). I only want it to give me one page (and its subpages.) I entered the names of the other pages, seperated by commas, in the “exclude” field of the widget, but they don’t go away. Suggestions?
-
You have to exclude pages by page ID, not by title. See the section under “exclude” here: http://support.wordpress.com/widgets/pages-widget/ .

Hi everyone.
I tried doing as explained in the last answer – I excluded pages by ID separated by commas… but the subpages I wanted to exclude are still listed! My theme is Regulus. Thanks for helping!
