Subpages don't work?

  Im trying to create a site for a school project and my subpages just won’t work.
  It says:” The requested URL *url* was not found on this server. I tried adding a subpage by custom link and it still doesn’t work. Im looking for someone who can tell me why subpages won’t work on my site or how to fix this problem.
