subpages vs categories

I’m beginning to better understand the differences between subpages vs categories but there is one minor issue I’m not clear on. As I understand it I can write as many post as I like on my main pages and split them all up into a variety of categories. If I want separate pages for separate subjects (Washington DC-Politics, Makeup and Hair, Health, etc), however, I will then be limited to subpages as a way of adding to these main subjects. Am I right so far?? If not, then please explain because the pages posts article left that a tad unclear for me.

Now, to get to my question. If I use separate pages and subpages, is there a way of listing them on the front page of my blog?? Will any future pages be listed as the current “About” page and subpages appear now??

Which approach (pages and subpages vs sticking with categories) would be my best approach for readers and why?? My main goal is to have all hair and makeup articles together, all political articles together, etc.

I thank you a head of time for your time help. You guys are all amazing!!!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I just thought of something. Is it possible to have separate blogs for each of the main subjects I mentioned above or are we limited by the number of blogs we can have. That would definitely makes things easier for the reader anyway.

Any and ALL advice is most welcomed right now. THANKS!!

    Yes.

The categories you make will then become dynamic pages like this showing all your posts in each category:
    http://flosplace.wordpress.com/category/march-articles/

or change the end of the link to /category/summer/
or this /category/water/ and so on

Adding a category widget will produce links to those pages automatically.

I just now found your other answer to “Moving a post from one page to another Part 2”. I THANK YOU very much for both answers because now I don’t think I need worry about subpages or different blogs. Thank goodness!! You are just 2 too sweet!!!! This just made my weekend!!

The pages and sub pages you make have nothing to do with your posts. Pages and posts are very different from each other.

Usually pages don’t have dates (some themes do). Pages can not be categorized or tagged so they don’t have much Google juice. Use pages for information that does not change: like an about page. You cannot post to pages. You can add info to pages, but they are not posts—only additions to the article on the page.

Posts appear on your front page. The front page, home, or blog is a special sort of page which updates whenever you add a post. You have only one page to make posts on.

Posts have dates. Posts can be categorized or tagged so they have a lot of Google juice.
Categories organize your blog by allowing readers to choose which topics they want to see.
