Subscribe mail is received but it does not work

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m testing the subscribe feature on lelecapoeira.com but, when i click on email to confirm subscription, the link sends me to https://wordpress.com/stats/day/lelecapoeira.com

    And the subscription doesn’t complete.

I’m using GeneratePress theme – and this used to work before. I also clicked on a new ‘Activate Subscription’ button in Appearance -> Customize -> Widgets -> Subscribe widget.

Any ideas what the issue could be? Thanks. (Note this is also NOT working for my other wordpress site which has similar configuration/theme).

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

    Hi there!

If you’re testing with an email address different from your WordPress.com account (which is required for the Jetpack plugin to work), you’ll be redirected to your site dashboard here on WordPress.com. Try opening the link in an incognito window or in a browser where you’re not logged into your WordPress.com account.

It’s possible that the feature no longer works with GeneratePress. You can try switching to a default theme like Twenty Twenty-Four and see if you have the same issue.

If you still need help after those troubleshooting steps, please reach out to the Jetpack Support team and they can provide further assistance.

    Thanks!

I had tried incognito already, as well as another opened browser for another gmail account I have. I don’t want to switch to 2024 theme, as it was working before. I’d rather understand why it stopped working – if the issue is on Jetpack’s side, it needs to be fixed. If it’s on the theme’s side, it also needs to be fixed. Or it could be something else?

The confirm subscription pop-up has a missing image everytime I try to suscribe. This time when the email arrived and I clicked to confirm the action seemed to complete, but the subscriber is not showing in either ‘Subscribers’ OR ‘Users’ list. The behaviour is the same for the capoeira.com and ….ov.co.uk sites.

Ah, look as if by magic it’s now working.

  • Unknown's avatar

Ah, no it’s not. How confusing. Subscriber still not showing despite emails saying the process has completed.

  • Hey there,

Thank you for the update. It sounds like this might be an issue with Jetpack itself. Please reach out to the Jetpack Support team and they can provide further assistance.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you. I am waiting to hear from Jetpack support, but will keep this thread with updates for the sake of clarity and for future reference. I got an automated reply from Jetpack with this information:

    https://jetpack.com/support/how-to-add-jetpack-ips-allowlist/

So before hearing from them I’ve added those addresses to Loginizer whitelist (site gets an absurd number of brute force attacks, so I restricted login access) and tested to see if made a difference – I also purged all caches.

I tried to subscribe again. Email came through as it has been doing, but when I confirmed the subscription still did not complete. When I look at https://wordpress.com/read for that email (i.e. where I get sent to when I click ‘confirm email’) the blog I just subscribed to isn’t on the list of subscriptions. The email below is from (email visible only to moderators and staff) and it’s the one the subscriber gets when filling in the subscribe field provided by Jetpack -> Newsletter

Ha, bingo! I disabled Loginizer https://wordpress.org/plugins/loginizer/. completely and the subscription process completed.

Now, I liked having double protection from brute force attacks – I wonder if there’s a compromise to be had – but using Loginizer without a blacklist seems kinda pointless.

When I re-enabled Loginizer it seemed to not work – even without blacklist. I disabled it again, and subscription went through. So seems the moral of the story is don’t use Loginizer + Jetpack to protect from Brute Force attacks?
