Subscribe to Comment Replies

    I have read previous posts on this subject, so I know that we can’t have this checkbox checked by default. I would like to submit this as an option. My readers (about 20) are all close family & friends on my private blog. They want me to move to Google+ for blogging because they automatically get notified of replies to comments. I love WordPress and want to stay here. I also considered moving to WordPress.org but the Jetpack email notifications don’t have the reply by email function like the ones here do. Is there any chance that at some point this could be offered as an option for cases like mine. Some of my readers are in their 80s and it is one more thing for them to have to remember to check a box. Believe it or not, they are used to Facebook & Google+ where they automatically get replies on threads they have commented on.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    I cannot believe for single moment that any adult is not capable of clicking that link to receive comments on a post.

    I disagree with you 100% and if Staff ever were to consider reversing the default as they did in the past when hundreds of us went crazy with this ridiculous be flooded with unwanted comments by email setting, then I would champion the campaign to have the default setting we have now re-instated.

    I didn’t mean that they weren’t capable, just that it’s one more thing for them to have to remember. By the same token, wouldn’t an adult be capable of UN-checking the box if they didn’t want notices?

    Also, I didn’t mean for staff to reverse the default. I was asking if maybe it could be an OPTION that we could for private blogs where members expect that they will be getting notified.

    I tested the option through the reader to subscribe to all comments from a blog, but then the person starts getting comments BEFORE they’ve commented. If they open their email account and read them in order, they get all the comments before they’ve even read the post.

    I’ve had my blog on WordPress.org for a few years with the checkbox automatically checked and haven’t gotten any complaints. I wanted to use WordPress.com for the ease of use and the fact that readers could reply directly from the notification emails. But they can’t do that if they’re not getting them because they forgot to check the box. <Sigh>

    Hi again,
    All your followers need to remeber is log-in information and clicking one link on the posts they want to follow comments on.

    If the default were changed we would automatically be receiving emailed comments on every post we commented on. In a little private blog with few posts and commenters that would not be a terrible email burden. But most of us follow and comment on many public blogs. If that default was changed on Public blog I would stop commenting at all.

    P.S. When we make suggestions for changes to Staff we post them into the Ideas Forum. Here’s the link for you https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/ideas#postform

    remeber = remember

    Yes, I can definitely see where that would be a problem, and I would never advocate for that.

    Thank you for the link.
