I tried changing to another theme and then it seems to work…
I had the default theme going, also tried various others, but with “Gear” I get a smaaall RSS icon, so I guess that’s it? I would have liked to find a simple way to add this RSS Feed to other themes, but as I said before, the text widget field just disappears when I try to edit it… -

pkunzip: I imagine by now you’ve solved your problem with the text widget, I had a similar experience myself. But just in case you haven’t, add the text widget, save changes, and then click on edit. This worked for me.
However, I have another problem now with the text widget that I need help with. I’m adding an icon to my sidebar for RSS feed subscription. I’ve followed the instructions from support’s “Put your feed in your sidebar” guide, and the link shows up on the page, but the image isn’t getting there. When I return to the text widget to check it out, almost all of the information for the img src part is gone except for <img> The original text I entered in the text widget exactly and without copying is:
<img src=”http://faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/a64.png”/>I type out the code carefully, hit “done,” and then hit “save changes,” but the image never makes it to the blog page. Help! This is really frustrating me, and yes, I’m a noob and learning.

Arg, I typed out the code for the feed above as well as the code for the image, however, it seems to have just made a link of the think in my post. Plus, what remains of my code for the image in addition to <img> is open bracket, forward slash, a, close bracket. Apologies, again, I am noob.

Thank you, experts, for helping us newbies! I think I followed all the directions & now have a subscribe button but it’s at the bottom of my ‘recent comments’ and has a blue ? icon to the right of it. Can I move the rss icon to a more prominent location &/or eliminate the ? icon?
Still a struggling computer illiterate, but working my way through,
Linda

Whoops, I asked to soon….just accidentally found how to move the icon, but still haven’t figured out how to eliminate the blue ? icon.

All that’s said, some of you may want to consider offering E-mail subscription through FeedBurner service. I happen to know (through feed back from my viewers) that many do not like and therefore do not use RSS readers and these folks actually prefer updates pushed to their Inbox.
I offer web-based news reader and E-mail service http://feeds2.feedburner.com/Shimworld and it’s worked very well—readership is up. You are more than welcome to give this a try by subscribing to my blog http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/mailverify?uri=Shimworld (note that you only receive updates only when there’s a new post) … you are also free to unsubscribe anytime.

This is much easier…
Just look at this code:
<img src=”http://faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/b28.png
” /> Click to Subscribe!1) replace the above text jeffnix with the name of YOUR blog
2) Next note carefully this, the IMAGE you want to associate with the RSS feed can be edited as in the FAQ code list. just exchange this text above beginning with faq -
Thanks jeffnix, you finally helped me get it accomplished. But now when you click on the image it says “Problem? Looks like you have a problem here sir…..”

Nobody can help without a direct link to your blog, starting with http. We need to see exactly what you’ve done.

I can’t get this to work either
I can get it to say subscribe, but I can’t got the image to work. I save it just as it says, but when I reopen it, it’s all disappeared to just <img>. -

sorry, I’m having exactly the same problem and have spent all morning tirelessly typing in code exactly as requested. also new to this-apologies!
