subscriber-only downloads
-
Currently I have some downloads available on my blog. However, I would like to make future downloads available to subscribers only. How do I do this?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
This is not possible on WordPress.com. The closest you can get here is to put your download links on a password-protected page, and then give that password to people who pay for a subscription.
If this is a feature you need on your site you might want to look at self-hosted WordPress instead where you can sell subscriptions using a plugin like WooCommerce.

Also to the best of my knowledge, any site on WordPressdotcom whose visibility setting is Public is searched and indexed by search engines, which includes their Media Library. So you would want to either open a second site strictly for this purpose, whose visibility setting is Private, or host your downloads on a 3rd party service like dropbox, CloudUp, and the like, which are not indexed by search engines.

@justjennifer makes a good point about the media library. Someone would need to know what they’re searching for, but theoretically if the file is in your library, it can be found via Google.
A more secure option would be a contact form with a PayPal button that people can use to subscribe, and then you send the file or a Dropbox link to them manually once they do.
