subscriber to comments must now log in to comment. how can I reverse this?

  A longtime reader and commenter on my blog says that, now that he has subscribed to comments, he is required to log in to comment, instead of just entering name and email as usual. I have not changed any blog settings, and I cannot find any setting that might change this. Is there any way I can reverse this for him? Thanks.
