Subscribers

    Hi!
Wanderstitch.com used to be my self-hosted WordPress.org account. A couple of years ago, I moved everything over to a WordPress.com free account, which is Wanderstitch.Wordpress.com. About 20% of my subscribers resubscribed on this new site.
I’m now thinking about upgrading to the paid Premium plan, and I see I get a domain free for a year on this plan. My question is, if I reactivate my old domain name (Wanderstitch.com), would all of my original WordPress subscribers, prior to changing to the free account, still be there? (If they haven’t unsubscribed, of course).

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your previous domain has been bought by HugeDomains.com, well-known squatters, and they sell that domain for only $3,995 – https://www.hugedomains.com/domain_profile.cfm?d=wanderstitch.com

When you let a domain expire and your hosting removes all files, there is nothing left. Also there is no (legal) way to reclaim ‘your’ domain.

  • Hi there,

I see @staartmees has already informed you about the current status of your previous domain, wanderstitch.com. Unfortunately, these domain recovery cases can be complex and often expensive.

That being said, I’d like to suggest some alternatives that may work perfectly for you. Given that your previous domain is currently unavailable, we could look into different domain extensions like wanderstitch.blog, wanderstitch.net, or even slightly modifying your original domain to something like wander-stitch.com. All these options are currently available and could potentially serve as a great new home for your website.

You can find an extensive list of available domain extensions and their pricing here: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/domain-pricing-and-available-tlds/

Now, regarding your original subscribers, unfortunately, once a domain expires and the site goes offline, it gets disconnected from Jetpack, which handles the subscription service on WordPress. This means that it won’t be possible to automatically retrieve those old subscribers. This may seem inconvenient, but it can be an opportunity to renew and refresh your subscription base and to reach out again to those who were previously subscribed, inviting them to join your new site.

If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please feel free to let us know.
