Subscribers not getting notification of updates

  Two of my friends have separately subscribed to my blog a few days ago, but they told me they’re not getting email notification of my new posts. I’ve installed the subscription widget and I think everything is enabled, they believed their subscription was successful, I subscribed and it notifies me when I add a new post (even though I don’t need to be told about that, of course). So what’s the problem? Do they have to be WordPress members or something?

  They don’t need to be a WordPress.com user.

  Could you ask them to:
  – go to http://subscribe.wordpress.com/ and check their subscription
  – check their junk mailbox
  – add (email visible only to moderators and staff) as a safe sender or whitelist user
