Subscribers to my blog — can’t see them all

When I go to my Site Stats page and check the Subscriptions tab, it shows 18 names. However, when I did not use the blog over the Christmas holidays, and when I finally logged back in, the number had jumped to 23. This made sense, because finally I was seeing the names of people who insisted they were subscribing to the blog prior to the Christmas holidays. I was also able to unsubscribe a couple of people I did not want. Then, suddenly, I had 18 again. I only unsubscribed 2 names, so the total should have been 21.

Is there a way I can see an accurate count of my subscribers and what their addresses are?

Is there a way I can have subscribers ask to be approved by me before allowing them on?

Thanks in advance for any light anyone can shed on this.

  • Basically, you checked your stats at the worst possible times. :)

We had realized that we neglected to include subscribers via the WordPress.com Subscribe feature, hence the jump.

Unfortunately, in doing that we also enabled the count of pending subscribers (those who have not confirmed their subscription), which is hardly worth counting, so we removed that, hence the drop.

What you’re seeing now is the most accurate count of current active subscribers.
