I am using the free Gravity Forms plugin – so, when requesting support, I am asked for the licence number received with my purchase, which I don’t have seeing as I made no purchase. It appears Gravity Forms offers support only for the purchased version

Gravity Forms is a premium plugin, so any free version is probably a demo version. It appears they only provide support for paid licenses.
Since your site is a self-hosted version of WordPress, you will need to move this post to their WordPress.org support forums:
