Subscribing to blog with plussed address
-
This is more a feature request after hunting around for a solution to what’s going wrong.
I just subscribed to a blog post that I didn’t realize was hosted on wordpress.com. Attempting to confirm my email address, I get the error “Your subscription could not be activated. It may have expired, or the email address you subscribed with is not attached to your WordPress.com account when I try to subscribe to a blog for emails with my non-wordpress email account.”
I’m in the habit of subscribing to all websites using a “plussed” email address specific to that site. For example, I might use (email visible only to moderators and staff) where websitename is unique to each site. This makes filtering into email folders easy, and it lets me see who’s “leaking” my email address to spammers. I’m happy to “attach” these all to my WordPress account as additional emails. How about adding a field to the user profile to hold these?
For now I have to log out of WordPress to register with a custom address.

Hi there,
Thanks for the suggestion. However, there are no plans to associate multiple email addresses with the same WordPress.com account at this time.
But you don’t need to log out every time to confirm your email subscription. Instead, just copy the confirmation link from your email, and then open it in a new private/incognito browser tab.
Additionally, for sites hosted on WordPress.com you don’t actually have to subscribe by entering your email address itself on the site. For sites hosted on WordPress.com, just click the Follow button bottom-right on the site. Then go to the Reader at https://wordpress.com/following/manage. From there you can then enable email notifications for specific sites you follow, without the owners of those sites ever gaining access to your email address.
