Subscribing to Forum not possible ?

  • Unknown's avatar

What happens if I press Subscribe on this Forum ? I would like to get mail when somebody responded on my querry, is it possible ?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. What happens? It just takes you to your subscriptions. That feature appears to be intended for actual blogs only.

As an alternative, subscribe to the RSS feed for your topic by following the link on the right, under “About this Topic”. There are many free services that allow you to receive e-mails whenever a feed you are subscribed to is updated.

Subscribing via email to forums can become overwhelming very quickly if the topic you subscribe to gets lots of action. I’ve seen threads here in the forums grow to 50 or more posts in the space of an hour or two. Getting 50 emails alerts in a couple hours would not be something most people would want.

Subscribing to the RSS feed for a thread is far less of a headache.

  • Unknown's avatar

I only want to have mails from my own querries.
It works fine on other forums. I never know when I get response from you f ex and therefore it would be nice with an alert.

  • Unknown's avatar

@stenbocken: Maybe. But that doesn’t change what thesacredpath said. What if 50 people comment on your question within an hour, not necessarily answering it? The system won’t be able to tell the difference.

  • Unknown's avatar

Never happened. If that would happen I would reconsider the issue.
I would not subscribe to one topic, but to my own querries only, and that means not just one topic; I still do not understand how to get that service

What you request does NOT exist.
What does exist is the ability to subscribe via RSS feeds found in the sidebar -> of the individual threads you post.
Click “member” under your username to locate all threads you have posted to on this forum. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/stenbocken

    @stenbocken
Here is the feed for this topic:
    feed://en.forums.wordpress.com/rss/topic/subscribing-to-forum-not-possible
You could bookmark it in your browser or use a reader so you will know when there is a new comment on your thread here in the forums.

To bookmark every single querry I make seems very inefficient. I have alreday missed some comments.
It is surprizing me since comments to blogs are always sent to my email, so why not comments to my querries ?

  • Unknown's avatar

Forum software is not as efficient as Blogging software.

@stenbocken, it is obvious that you are unhappy here. Nothing it seems is to your liking. Perhaps you should investigate some other platforms like blogger, typepad, movable type, and live journal to see if one of them would be better suited.

    Life is too short. Seriously.

  • Unknown's avatar

To investigate just all there is to find what is to my liking woudl take more than a life time… Thanks for your advice. What is your role here on the Forum ? you seem to be very active in responding to everybody
I thoght that some of my remarks could serve to improve WP, but no, the response is “perhaps you should investigate other platforms”; very nice response

Look, his role is to answer questions in the forum, not to answer them to your liking. Save time and move on; nobody who is an architect of WP.com is a volunteer in the forums, as you’d know if you looked around the forums more.

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m just a volunteer. That is all. The thing is I’ve seen people make suggestions to you and get nothing but negative replies in return as to why that isn’t a acceptable solution or why that is too hard, or why should you have to do it that way, etc. WordPress isn’t perfect and it never will be. Things that you would change others don’t see as a problem. Things I would change you might not see as a problem. Some things I might want to change might cause a lynch mob to form and start looking for a strong tree to hang me from.

I’m not trying to get you to move, but what I’m saying is over the past week there has been so much surface that seems to bother you about wordpress that it certainly leads one to believe that you aren’t happy here and nothing we can suggest as a workaround seems to help.

    @stenbocken

I don’t want to hurt your feelings or to distress you, but:

We are volunteers in these forums. The forums are here to provide technical advice to fellow bloggers. And Richard is one of the kindest, most wise and informative of the volunteers.

His advice is worth thinking about. Or perhaps you should consider some advice from the bard:

There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.
    William Shakespeare

Or if you want to discuss how wp.com could improve, then you should be bringing up your ideas to staff:

I have invested more time here than learning the HTML and CSS codings !
or to learn DreamWeaver and other programs
Therefore, I find that WP is not worth the time it takes to learn all its limitations
Your reply is always standard: what you think is good , others think is bad.
What you think is bad, others think is good.
I am highly upset and regret having invested so much time. Just look at the many querries for last year.

  • Unknown's avatar

All I requested was email notification on my querries. That I have seen here on WP on both blogs (since I get all comments on my email) and other places too but it is not implemented consistently
Consistency seems to be something unknown for the WP designers
I do not want RSS feeds and other tricks. It should not be more complex than necessar.

You have comments rss in your sidebar.

What you want is not offered here: neither email notification of responses to forum inquiries nor emotional support.
