Subscription button Not Loading

Everytime I follow someone’s blog, I receive an email requesting for me to “Manage my Subscriptions.” The problem is, whenever I click on the button, I get nothing except a blank screen with an icon indicating me to wait. I have waited twenty minutes and nothing happens. I tried, “blogs I follow” but there is nothing really there to save. If I select “get new posts by email” there is no save button to update my settings. Is there any other way to access the Subscriptions page?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

First, try the Cookie Dance. http://raincoastermedia.com/2012/05/01/the-cookie-dance/

That might fix it. But it could well be overloaded, since staff made Subscribe to Emails the default, and so many people are trying to unsubscribe.

As far as I know, the ‘Manage my subscriptions’ link is just a courtesy, not a request. It’s in case you want to change your settings. If you don’t, then just ignore it. If you do, here’s how to do it:

When you’re logged in, you’ll see the grey admin strip running across the top of your window wherever you are in WordPress.com. Look at the far left and you’ll see a ‘W’ in a circle. Hover your cursor over that and it’ll present you with the menu for the home page options. Hover over ‘Reader’ then from the flyout menu, pick Blogs I Follow. (‘Follow’ by the way, is WordPress.com’s word for ‘Subscribe’). In the panel on the left, you’ll see ‘Edit List’ – click that.

If you want to delete any blogs from your follow list, just click the little grey ‘x’ by the side of its name. If you want to receive or stop receiving email notifications whenever any of your followed blogs post, click the drop down list and change the setting to what you want. ‘Never’ will stop sending you emails, ‘Instantly’ will send you emails as soon as the blog publishes a post, Daily will send you an email once a day with one or more of the posts contained in it, and weekly will do the same only once a week. The other options are self-explanatory.

You can adjust the frequency of your settings and set a global default for them, by clicking the link at the bottom of the left side panel where it says ‘Manage email delivery settings’ (by default it’s in pale grey and very small print so if you’ve got bad eyesight you might miss it!) and set your preferences there. Remember to click the ‘Save Settings’ button afterwards.

If you get any problems with the Home page – whether Reader or any of the other tabs or options – then leave it a few days and try again. WordPress.com have been updating the home page a lot recently and it’s very glitchy.

Raincoaster, thanks for the tip but my cache has been cleared. LOL funny! I have never heard it called the Cookie dance!

Absurdoldbird, thanks for pointing out where the “Manage email delivery settings” is. I never even saw it! Anyway, here is the crazy thing. I followed your instructions and saved the settings and would you believe, if I return to the “Blogs I follow” only the last blog settings was saved to only weekly? All the others are still saying “Never” (send posts by email) and the section where you select “Get comments by email” are unselected. I think this may be a problem with WordPress?

Yes, it seems they’re spending all weekend tinkering with it. I would just leave them to it and if it’s still happening Monday report back.

Yeah, I agree with raincoaster – just leave them to it and come back if it’s still happening. However, personally I’d give them longer than just Monday. They’ve got to get back to it first.
