Subscription/membership

I’m creating a blog page, whose content I will be transferring another blog host as I build an audience. I’d like to try your free page first. Then upon my satisfaction, switch to a premium service. If I do so and select my own domain name, will the content from the free site transfer or will I have to begin anew?

Hi, just to clarify, if you want to register a custom domain name (like mydomain.com) for your free WordPress.com website, you’ll need to upgrade to at least the Personal plan to do so. Free WordPress.com websites have subdomains of either .wordpress.com or .something.blog. https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Also if you are going to be promoting your music on your site, you’ll need to upgrade if you want to upload your music files to your site. See here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/

Your original content is yours to do with as you wish, and you can export it and move to a different hosting provider at any point. However, WordPress.com can handle any number of visitors to your website even on the free site plan. That would not be a reason to move off the platform.

I’d suggest reading through this support guide so you can compare WordPress.com (where we are) to the open source WordPress software in order to make an informed decision about which “WordPress” is best for you. https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Let us know if you have any other question about this after reading those guides.
