Subscription theme/website

Hi, we have a community of kids arts and crafts club owners and we’d like to design a website template, with basic pages, opt ins etc. Then we’d like to give it to our community. Basically to add their domain, logo and tweak a few basics. Plug and play. Ideally on a subscription basis so that when they leave our community they will lose access. Would this be possible with WordPress?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

  • Hello there,

Happy to help you with this.

Ok, so this is possible, but the set up would need some thinking…

Are you looking to replicate sites under one account and hand over admin details?

    Many thanks.

    Hi Aleone

Thanks for your reply, appreciate your assistance with this.

Is there a way to automate the process of “replicating sites under one account and hand over admin details”, or would this have to be a manual process? What would the setup and running cost be +- for us to do this?

Keen to automate as much as possible.

The ideal would be to give them as much freedom as possible to edit and change their own website with their own domain name (but the website design is based on our template).

BUT, if they leave our community we would want to revoke access to the template.

    Would this be possible?

Thanks for the additional information. It sounds like you want to create a WordPress multisite network, which would not be possible here at WordPress.com.

As far as the automation would go, you would likely need to research some kind of membership plugin or service that is compatible with multisite that would allow you to control the access to each subsite on your network. Whether or not that can be automated, I’m not sure (I’m not a multisite expert).

Since we don’t support WordPress multisite installations, you would need to find a different hosting provider that would not have the same limitations we have here.

There’s a list of recommended WordPress hosting providers over at WordPress.org too: https://wordpress.org/hosting/

You may also want to reach out to the WordPress community over at WordPress.org as they may have ideas and suggestions for what you’re trying to accomplish. They have a forum specific to creating multisite networks that may help you get pointed in the right direction as multisite setups can be a bit tricky:

    I hope that helps!
