Subscriptions and Emailers – Mailchimp

  • Unknown's avatar
      Hello,

      I have a mailchimp account.

What I would like to do is this –

Invite people to subscribe on every page of my website – or at least on each post
Preferably have a pop-up on each page / post
When someone subscribes – simply by entering their email – send an automated “THANK YOU FOR SUBSCRIBING” email
Also display a better THANK YOU message onpage
Get a list of emails of people who have subscribed to my blog / post
Link this list to my mailchimp account

I am on the personal plan.
I have created a simple contact form on one post – https://blogyourniches.com/2020/04/04/questions-that-parents-ask-about-home-schooling/?contact-form-hash=1bcef3fc6110f893e79c0242c50190c3ec714d87

Could you please guide me through this step by step?

    Thanks in advance.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Invite people to subscribe on every page of my website – or at least on each post

Preferably have a pop-up on each page / post

This is not how MailChimp or the WordPress.com subscriptions work. They work globally on your site and not on selected posts or pages. You want people to subscribe to your site, not subscribe to specific posts or pages.

Also, all the customizations you’re suggesting could be possible with some custom coding only if you upgrade to the Business plan. But again, that’s something I can’t tell for sure as it’s a job for a professional web developer.

    Thanks for your reply.
I understand that I may have to upgrade to a higher plan.
I also understand that it works globally on the entire site – and that’s fine.

However, as of now, – under the personal plan – could I link my Mailchimp account to WordPress? If so how and what can I achieve by doing this?

I’m sorry I’d like to use the classic editor under the personal plan please.

    How do I do this?

In the link you shared, it says “Click on Add Block” I do not see that option anywhere.

    Am I missing something?

  • Embedding a Mailchimp form on individual posts and pages on your site is only possible using the Mailchimp block in the block editor. It is not possible to embed that form using the classic editor.

The only other option is to add a Mailchimp pop-up form to your site using a widget. That form will appear after a specific period of time (which you control) after someone opens your site, but if someone dismisses the form they will not see it again unless they clear their browser cookies.

    Add a Mailchimp Pop-Up

Ok. So in short it is not possible under the personal plan.

Incidentally, is it possible to use the block editor only on one page / post of the website and use the classic editor on others?

  • The plan does not matter, it’s the editor that you are using that will not allow that. And the pop-up widget can be used with your Personal plan as well.

You can also use the Block Editor to create some pages and use the Classic one for others. Bear in mind though that the Classic editor is being retired and you will only be able to access it via WP-admin:

    Thanks!

When you say retired and only through WP-Admin – it means it will still be available but manage through the WP-Admin dashboard right?

Also how do I activate block editor just for a single page?

  • When you say retired and only through WP-Admin – it means it will still be available but manage through the WP-Admin dashboard right?

    That is correct :)

Also how do I activate block editor just for a single page?

You wouldn’t activate it for one page really, you would just switch to Blocks to work on that page, and then, for the next ones you would access the Classic Editor via WP-admin.

Also, note that the Block Editor has Classic Block, which is virtually the same as the Classic Editor but within the new one.

    Thanks for this.

I tried using block editor on one page / post but then it automatically switches to block on other posts too.

    Please help!

And no – please don’t suggest I use the CLASSIC BLOCK. I want the classic editor back please.

  • Activating the block editor will activate it for your entire site.

But after you’ve published a post/page using the block editor, you can switch back to using the classic editor as staff-mckluskey said above. Any blocks added to the page published in the block editor will continue working even after you switch the default editor for the site back to classic.

Ok. Back to my original question.
I created a simple form on Mailchimp and added the code to the Mailchimp widget.
But the popup does not appear on my website.

    What did I do wrong?

  • Unknown's avatar

When I tried to use the Text widget – as recommended by some experts – it showed me a bunch of code in my sidebar.

  • Only the specific code for the pop-up form can be used in the Mailchimp widget, but we found out only yesterday that Mailchimp has changed how that form works on their end, which means at the moment there’s no way to add new Mailchimp pop-up forms on WordPress.com. We’ve added a notice explaining that to the support page at https://wordpress.com/support/mailchimp/

So at this point the only way to add a Mailchimp form anywhere on your site is using the Mailchimp block in the block editor.

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok. I understand that I may not be able to link MailChimp right now.

But I have another question –

I have a FOLLOW THE BLOG widget on my sidebar.
Is that only for wordpress users?
Can non-wordpress members use that to follow my blog?

  • You can use the form with blocks, then switch back to classic for editing. You could add the from as a reusable block, then copy that code into each posts “text” editor too if you wanted to.

For the Follow widget: if someone’s logged out or doesn’t have an account, they’ll have a chance to enter their email address. They won’t need an account for that. Cheers!

  • Unknown's avatar

Well, I tried out the follow widget and did get a confirm email.

But when I clicked on Confirm Follow this is what I got –

    Status

In case you are unable to view the page –

    It says –
Your subscription could not be activated. It may have expired, or the email address you subscribed with is not attached to your WordPress.com account.

    And –
This is the management page for following blogs. You will receive an email at (email visible only to moderators and staff) whenever a new post is made on these sites. Unfollow a blog to stop receiving emails from that blog. Go to Settings to stop receiving all emails from WordPress.com.

Followed by a list of blogs I follow.

Am I doing something wrong here? Again – I have used the Follow Blog widget from Appearance -> Widgets page.

  • Hi there,

There’s nothing wrong with that widget. You’re seeing that message because you’re already logged in to your WordPress.com account. The follow widget is working fine and there’s nothing to worry about.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Ok. That’s probably it.

Also someone on this thread said ?
You could add the from as a reusable block, then copy that code into each posts “text” editor too if you wanted to.

I did not quite get this. Could you please explain.
