Subsribers

Where do I look for a list of my subscribers? how do I know if someone has subscribed?
-
-
-
As the blog is brand new it will not have any subscribers yet. See here
https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/See here also https://en.support.wordpress.com/followers/ and https://en.support.wordpress.com/followers/2/
If you are referring to moving subscribers see here https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/moving-your-subscribers/
-
To link your username to your primary blog go to https://wordpress.com/me/account
Scroll down to Primary Site and Web Address and after entering them click “Save Account Settings”. -
Note that if you are referring to moving subscribers you need to type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff, after you post the URL of the other blog.

I’ll want my new blog to eventually be my one and only. As soon as I have it all ready I will close the old one. The old one is CognitiveComPost.com and the new one is MyHallway.com. Just FYI
-
You need to install and activate the Jetpack plugin http://jetpack.me on http://cognitivecompost.com/ for Staff to be able to move the subscribers.

@jeffmazza
I just want to confirm: Do you want to move your followers from your self-hosted site cognitivecompost.com to myhallway.com?Note that you can do this yourself using the instructions @timethief linked to earlier, but if can just confirm for me I’d be happy to also do it for you.

Possibly. But CognitiveComPost is hosted by GoDaddy and myhallway is hosted by WordPress.
-
That’s exactly what Jetpack is for in this case – if Jetpack is connected on your GoDaddy site you can use it to transfer your subscribers to any other Jetpack or WordPress.com site you own.
I have moved those subscribers for you now, but remember that you can also do it if you want to move back to a self-hosted site again in future. To move subscribers between two WordPress.com sites, you’ll always need staff assistance.

Ok. Thanks. I have not added Jetpack to my new site myhallway.com. From what I read it did not look like it is needed. I’m researching to see what tools and widgets I need to add to the new site to make sure I’m getting the biggest bang on posts. Also looking to see if I need to add any SEO widgets or tools. I also just submitted a sitemap although that is somewhat new and confusing to me. Looks like it could take several days to “crawl” whatever that means. I have to admit I did not do a good job on my prior site thus very few hits and readers. I am trying to do everything right this time.

You don’t need to add Jetpack to myhallway.com, no, as that’s a WordPress.com site, so everything you’ll find in Jetpack is already in it.
Also looking to see if I need to add any SEO widgets or tools.
You don’t need to worry about this at all. On WordPress.com we take care of all the technical SEO stuff for you, including submitting your sitemap to search engines. You can just focus on creating content. It’s not possible to install SEO plugins here in any case. You can see here for more information:

It can actually take as much as two months before your site will start appearing in search results. This is due to the way search engines work, and there’s not really anything you can do to speed this up, except post regularly so that search engines constantly have new content to index.

Thanks for all the great info! In my last site I had an SEO tool but it was always telling me everything I was doing wrong and had different colored circles to indicate that I needed to change content. It never seemed to like my posts. Guess that’s more than I really need.
-
That sounds like the Yoast SEO plugin. That checklist tool for content is pretty much the only feature of that plugin that is not included by default on WordPress.com. But I agree that you don’t really need it. Make sure that you include relevant key words in your post titles, URLs and content, and make sure that your content is original and of good quality.
Timethief, who answered you earlier, has several posts about this on her blog. I suggest you check it out if you want to learn more on this topic, and about good blogging practices in general.
-
Thanks I will check out her site. I know just enough to make me dangerous and have much to learn if I want to be read. Thanks for all your help and advise.

Another question. Is it possible to move the meta widget to the bottom of the page? I’d rather not have the admin and log in and out near the other menus or widgets if possible.
