Suburbia theme not updating properly
-
I’ve just changed my theme to Suburbia which looks great. However, when I’m in the ‘customize’ panel, the colours show up differently to how they appear on my site once I’ve clicked ‘save’ and ‘close’. In ‘customize’, the text in the title boxes shows up brown when I hover over it, and the background colour barely changes. However, as soon as I close the ‘customize’ panel, the brown colour vanishes, and nothing happens to the text (it remains greyed out) while the background for each subject changes to a vivid blue – which I don’t have selected anywhere on the customize panel. Also, not all the photos on my posts are showing up as headers on the main page. Can someone tell me what I’m doing wrong?! Thanks…

WordPress.com sells custom design upgrades. They allow us to “preview” change that do not actually display on the blog unless we purchase the upgrade.
If you have not purchased the custom design upgrade note that no changes you try out aside from those such as Custom Background, Custom Header, etc. which are stated on the theme description pages in the features column (right hand side) will be visible to visitors.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-fonts/You do not need to load the design tools unless you have the Custom Design upgrade. All of these functions can be accessed from your dashboard – without loading the custom design tools – no upgrade required.
Appearance > Header
Appearance > Background
Appearance > Theme Options (applicable only to some themes)
Settings > Reading (set a static front page)
Site Title and Tagline > Settings > GeneralIf you are using the preview mode for the Custom Design upgrade some of the settings in that mode will save but they won’t show up on the front end unless you purchase the upgrade.
To go back to the free options, go to Appearance → Themes → Customize → Colors and click the “exit the preview” link in yellow at the top of the panel on the right.

Thanks but I’m only trying to change features that are not included in the Custom Design Upgrade, such as background.
The colours selected in the ‘customize’ panel are the *default* settings – ochre, brown and a very, very pale blue – but they’re not displaying properly on my home page once I hit ‘save’ and ‘close’. I haven’t tried to change those colours to anything else because the theme itself won’t let me!

ps there isn’t an ‘exit the preview’ link showing so I don’t think I’m in the upgrade preview panel – I simply clicked ‘customize’ on my theme, the same that I have many times on many different themes over the years. This is the first time that allowable customizations haven’t shown up on my site in this way… so I’m scratching my head!

I have this theme, which BTW I know very well, up on my test blog and I am using Firefox 29. I did not click Customize (see what I posted above so you know why) and I changed the background color here > Appearance > Background without any issue at all.
Do not click into the customize unless you want to purchase a custom design upgrade.

It let me change the background as you suggested, but the *default setting colour scheme* is still not showing up. This is the one I want. I haven’t changed it myself to anything other than the default, so I’m slightly baffled why it isn’t working. Also, the photographs should be displaying in the headers on the home page – this is nothing to do with customization. Sorry, don’t mean to sound cross but I’m starting to feel very frustrated!

Oh yes it does have to do with customization.
The only color scheme palette you see in the theme customizer that you can use without a custom design upgrade is the “Default” which is depicted here http://en.wordpress.com/themes/suburbia
Any other color scheme palette depicted in theme customizer when you click the “colors” link there that you want to use is only available if you purchase the custom design upgrade. Are you clear on that now?
-
Thank you. I have always been clear on that. I have said several times that I have not tried to change the default colour settings. The default colour settings are not showing up on my blog once I hit ‘save’ and ‘close’. I don’t know how to be any clearer than that.
I have also not tried to customize anything to do with the headers.
I will probably give up on this theme, since it does not seem to be working.
Thank you for your time.
