Sudden attack of HTML…
-
The page where I load a new post has suddenly presented itself in HTML, instead of ordinary English + images.
This is copable-with, but quite difficult, what with italics, quotes, alignments, etc. Please can you help me reset it? – I have no idea what to do. I have tried clearing the browser, but that hasn’t worked….The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Okay then skip 3 (a) below.
In order to help you we need to know your specific computing environment details. Please work through what follows and report back.
1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/

I’m really grateful for your help –

I looked at my blog at work, on my computer there, and the local versions of my posts are all in HTML there, as well; – so it can’t be anything to do with my browser on my home computer.
Please can you help with any other ideas?
Thank you so much –
Lynn

Are you copying and pasting content into posts and pages, for example from Microsoft WORD?
-
Microsoft Word is a word processing program that’s not compliant with web standards. The result of copy and pasting from Microsoft Word or from any word processing program into the Tiny MCE editor in WordPress blogs can be unexpected, and contain a lot of formatting code that’s not compliant unless you know how to use the built-in features in the Visual editor for using Word cleanly. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text
Note if you intend to keep copying and pasting then you need to click the kitchen sink icon #15 at the end of Row 1 to have Row 2 appear. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-1
However, do this now > go here and enable this > Settings > Writing
Formatting
_ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically
“save changes”I recommend using Windows Live Writer for posting to your blog > http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/windows-live-writer/

Yes – but I’ve been pasting from Word that since I started the blog in August 2012; and also the post I was working on had already been pasted in a couple of weeks earlier whilst I waited for image permissions.
The HTML thing happened when I had uploaded one of those images via the Media > Select File thingy; yet it was just a normal jpeg.
I’ll go and do as you suggest – and thank you again for all this help!

Here is the post which started this concern: http://theframeblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=994&action=edit
– it’s still in draft form, waiting to be published.Unfortunately, however, now all the local versions of my past posts have also been converted into HTML: for example, the current published one: http://theframeblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=1043&action=edit
Surely a lack of compatibility in Word couldn’t convert historic posts, could it…?
Thank you; you’re incredibly kind!

Yes these copying and pasting errors can be cumulative.

Hi @theframeblog,
Everything looks to be appearing fine on my end in your Visual editor as demonstrated by the screenshot here:
Are you still having trouble with this? If so, would you mind uploading a screenshot to your Media Library for me to check out?
Going forward, I would recommend following the steps here when pasting from Microsoft Word:
Please let me know if you’re still having trouble!
Best,
Jeremey

Please forgive this belated reply – I was away yesterday. I found out – to my embarrassment – that I had switched from the ‘Visual’ button to the ‘Text’ button, completely unaware of what they were for – since ‘Text’ didn’t mean ‘HTML’ to me.
I’m very sorry to have bothered everyone, but if I hadn’t I would never have discovered this by myself, so I suppose it’s a good thing…
I’m very grateful for help from both timethief and Jeremey: you’re so kind to have come to my rescued, as I completely panicked.
V. best wishes,
Lynn
