Sudden dramatic loss of blog followers
-
It means I have a custom domain, raincoaster.com, rather than the more widespread URL of the form whatever.wordpress.com. Everyone who is having this problem has a WP.com configuration, not a custom domain. I am just wondering if it’s related.

my situation is identical to sloopie 72 as of now, meaning my WP followers are still listed under followers on my stats page, but the overall count on both the stats page and home page does not include those 195 followers.

I’m having the same issue. The number of my blog followers dropped to include only email followers. My total number as shown when I click on “Blog Followers” is 227, but my home page and my Stats page both only show “140” which is merely the number of those subscribed by email. How can I get the overall, accurate number to show? Thank you.
The blog I need help with is http://akafkaesquelife.wordpress.com

do I still have the followers ie, will my posts still be received by my “followers” or are the followers just gone?

We don’t know. I suggest if you want to test it, subscribe to your own blog, then make a post and see if it shows up.

Hi I saw this thread and now realise that my blog has the same problem – only the email followers are shown on the blog; the WP ones are still listed in my stats but not included in the total. (It’s not a custom domain.)

Well, that’s interesting…. I signed up for my own blog (as a WP subscriber, not an email subscriber) to see if I’d get notification when the new post scheduled for tomorrow a.m. drops – and it looks like the count has been restored. I unfollowed; the count is still correct.
Maybe this is a fix, or WP fixed the problem and it was a freak coincidence of timing.

Same thing has happened to me. Looks like the email followers are not being added up on the main page. http://wronghands1.wordpress.com/

I have done as suggested as far as publishing a new post and my follower count is still off, despite them showing up in the full list. I am relieved though to find I am not the only one with this problem.

Hi. Just wanted to report that it’s now fixed on my end. Blog subscribers, all on WP, email and Facebook, add up correctly on my Stats and widget. Thank you.

All 527 WP Followers have gone leaving 1 email follower. Hi 1 email follower !!!! :)

What I have noticed is that on the site stat page it show both stats WP follower total and then email follower totals which ad up to my 982 followers plus my twitter followers for a correct total of 1016 followers. At least on mine it appears that way. However, if one looks on the stats page where view stats are also recorded the number that appears at the bottom of the page is only that of the WP followers which is 724. It does not include the email followers. As we all know the total of both is what we have become accustomed to seeing not just a partial count. The same goes for the home page, the total of followers reflect only a partial count which excludes the total of email followers.
Has there been a change in the way these totals are displayed?
If so, would a bit of common courtesy with a heads up not have made this whole ordeal a bit easier ?
Generally changes are made and we find out when we sign into our blog. Not because anyone has bothered to notify us of any changes. As these changes are generally small it is no big deal. but when it comes to followers that we have worked hard to get it is a bit disconcerting.
Just my two cents for whatever it is worth…….
FYI I do have a custom domain not a WP domain so I do not believe that would be the issue.
