Sudden drop off of traffic to blog
-
While I was giving free consults my traffic was higher. The day after I told readers I would start charging, not to read the blog of course, but for any consultations outside the blog, my traffic dropped by 60%. The obvious answer is that they got sticker shock, though the blog is still free. I just want to make sure no one did anything funky to hack the blog and block traffic. Because it was sooo sudden, and my readers come from 113 countries. Hard to believe they could all be on the same page like that. What do you think? Thanks, Lynn.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hackers can’t stop traffic from going to your blog. They can take it offline, but in your case they have not.
I suggest your drop off in stats is that your last post is so old, plus sticker shock. Nobody wants to return to a blog only to see stuff they have been looking at for weeks, PLUS a notice that the offer which was previously on the table is so no longer.

I get most of my traffic from search engines and if I don’t make new Posts that traffic will trend down. search engines seem to like sites that have fresh content
When I make a new Post I get a spike in traffic for a few days, the spike from subscribers to my site and the fact than many sites have a link showing my latest Post and a new Post gets new traffic

Thanks people. I just wanted to know the blog wasn’t being hacked. That’s a relief. I know what you’re saying about new blogs, but my blogs are cures for diseases. They never get old. My highest rated blog was written two years ago. Still, even with the drop off, it is the highest even today. Thanks so much for your input. I feel a lot better.

My most popular Post is four years old. The internet works in strange ways.
