sudden increase in visits/views

  i’ve had a sudden increase in visits with one particular image getting viewed over 200 times – something must be wrong?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  hi jimmy this is like from 10 views a day to 300 views and someone is really like besotted with the periodic table, maybe i ought to add some periodic chairs?

  Trust me, if one of the 10 a day submitted one of the articles to Digg and it rates high (therefore gets more views) then it’s possible to get thousands. I was speaking to a member the other day who told me Digg is his main source of viewership.

  And what about the periodic table? I don’t understand.

  It’s probably that suddenly that image has gotten indexed by search engines. I have one post with an image of Steve Jobs that has, thanks to geeks finding it hot in a retro kinda way, bumped even the Britney Spears sex tape post off the top spot at my blog. It gets about 500 hits every single day now. It’s just the whim of the search engines and your optimizing the image for them, eg using captions, alt text, filename, description, etc.

  I bet Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleyev would never have guessed his periodic table would be up there with the Britney Spears sex tapes, there’s no accounting for people’s fetishes! 300 hits yesterday 100 hits already today.

  The periodic table is the most beautiful entity in Chemistry; at least that’s what I think. And there are a lot of high-school kids out there who struggle to read Pa as Protactinium and not Palladium. So be happy, and enjoy the stats graph spiking up :)

  300 views yesterday 400 so far today. Stick a periodic table on your blog and watch the stats graph go from gently undulating terrain to shear cliff face. I must be periodic table central. The search terms are interesting to look at: periodicka tabulka, الجدول الدوري, periodinė elementų lentelė, periodni sustav elemenata, and so on. There seems a global appreciation for what has been called ‘the most elegant organisational chart ever devised’. I think it has to go into my Information Design Top Ten.
