Sudden spam influx I have to manually moderate

    I’ve had a lot of spam coming through on both my blogs, usually commenting on older posts. Some of these spam comments are ones that previously have been caught by Akismet – why is this happening all of a sudden? Do I need to upgrade something? I have it set to moderate comments and I’m notified by email, but there seems to be a lot in the past few days. Any other way (other than manually having to move them to spam) that I can block them? Thanks heaps :)

    Hi there,

    Marking them as spam will help Akismet catch them in the future. You may also want to look through your approved comments — sometimes if you accidentally approve a spam comment, that will allow similar spam comments to get through the spam filter later on.

    You can use the Comment Blacklist to make sure certain kinds of comments are always marked as spam. We have more about that here: Unwanted Comments and Comment Spam
