Sudden surge of comments

    I have made more than 70 posts with little reaction but suddenly a post from two weeks ago is producing hundreds. They are all positive but many are written in a strange sort of English that sounds like it has been translated and many of the usernames are something to do with pet shops. Anyone have any idea what is happening?

    That’s sounds like comment spam to me. Mark any off-topic comments of that nature as spam – do not delete it! https://en.support.wordpress.com/unwanted-comments/

    Over 80% 0f all so-called comments submitted to wordpress.COM hosted blogs every day are spam. That’s not surprising given that the vast and overwhelming majority of all internet communication is spam. We cannot disable Akismet on wordpress.COM hosted blogs and that’s very good thing. The spam we are not sent for review contains malware and viruses and if opened would bring down many sites, not just our own site.

    Note that the prompt to submit and email address and a website URL will still appear, but providing an email address and logging in are not required, and you cannot change this so the prompt does not appear.
