Sudden traffic decrease

    For *years*, I had a steady 175+ views per day on my blog. I’m posting each & every day, I’m doing everything you recommend in the ‘Why are my views decreasing’ section of this help. For no apparent reason (didn’t change a single privacy setting!), since Sept. 15th, I have less than 30 views each & every day! How can that be?

    Hi there,

    Sudden drops in stats do happen, and doesn’t necessarily indicate something is wrong. I checked your site and stats are getting recorded properly, so it is working like it’s supposed to.

    Since the Facebook data scandal and GDPR coming into effect earlier this year, we’ve seen a decrease in stats across the board as more people started using tracking blockers in their browsers that block us from tracking their site visits. That wouldn’t explain such a sudden drop in stats as I’m seeing for your site, but it does coincide with the general release of the Safari 12 browser for Mac OS. That browser has some built-in tracking protection features, and if a large number of your site’s visitors use Macs and Safari, that would explain what’s happening here.

    Unfortunately there’s not much more we can do in this case – it’s not really possible to analyse data we are not receiving :)
