suddenly getting a ton of spam

    I have received about 20 spam comments with bogus email addresses in the past few minutes. I’ve marked them as spam, but I don’t understand what else I have to do with askimet. I have a personal use blog, and I see my askimet key. The plugin is active, should I do anything else?

    Are you referring to your above site at elbycloud.wordpress.com or a different site?

    Akismet, which is active on all of WordPressdotcom, is really very good at identifying spam comments and putting them in the Spam folder. Spammers do change tactics from time to time so there is a learning curve involved for Akismet when they do.

    If the spam comments are in your Spam folder, then Akismet is doing its job. If you find those comments in your Pending approval folder is when you can help by marking those spam comments as spam so that Akismet learns.
