suddenly getting spam comments

  After a year and a half happily blogging, 2500 hits, and re-posted on the American College of Physicians web site, I suddenly started getting spam comments about two months ago. They have been arriving with annoying regularity and each time they do I receive an automatic email asking me to adjudicate if they are legitimate. Is there some way you can trace the source, or at least show me how to spare myself the annoyance of frequent spam notifications?

  Hi there,

  Our system has always been protected by a product called Akismet, which protects your blog from Spam comments. The fact that you have not had any spam comments get through in the last year and a half is a great thing to hear! Unfortunately recently spammers have been attacking WordPress.com (and WordPress.org) blogs with increasing tenacity.

  Akismet has been working to stay ahead of these new spammers, however there will always be a curve. As you get any messages which get through the filters but are still spam, make sure you mark them as such and that will help the Akismet filters learn. Hopefully it will allow your mailbox to remain spam-free soon!
