Suddenly unable to upload any images

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve been using photos and video in my blogs for several weeks without any problem. Today, I am suddenly unable to load any image. I’ve tried jpegs, gifs, from my computer, links to other URLs, nothing works. I’ve also tried it on different draft pages and posts or changing status of the post.
I’m completely baffled. I’m not aware of doing anything differently than I normally do.
    Here’s what happens:
I choose the add image icon and get the box, and I choose “select files” and click on the image I want, and then the long, narrow, horizontal rectangle appears where it usually shows it loading and says 100%. BUT, this time, there’s a momentary flicker in that box (I think it’s saying something, but I can never catch what), and then there is no image, there are none of the usual questions (no “image title” or “alt tag” etc.), it just says “insert image” except that there’s no image to insert. I have tried that a few times, just to see if it would appear if I went to gallery or media library, but they are blank for new images as well. The media library DOES still contain the 40 images I uploaded before today.
Is anyone else having this problem??

Dreams, I’m sorry, I don’t understand your question.

    Time,
    1. I’m using Mozilla Firefox. I think I recently updated it to the latest version, but I can’t seem to find where I find the number.
    2. No, I will go look and report back.
    3. No, if I’m desperate, I’ll try that.
    4. I use Ubuntu, which is Linux. I’m still getting used to it, but I’ve been blogging successfully with it up till now. As I understand it, viruses are not a problem for Linux. That’s the main reason I left Windows.
    5. Yes, but that was 2-3 weeks ago. I’ve posted blogs (and uploaded many pics) since then.
    6. I’m sorry, I don’t know what this means.
As I’m anwerng your questions, I’m thinking, the only thing that was “different” about today was I tested out a bookmarklet called Readability, which made websites much more accessible to me, except that it also turned off the sound on the web! So, I took it off my bookmark and rebooted my computer, and that fixed the sound problem. Now I am wondering if it has somehow caused the image problem?
    Here it is: http://lab.arc90.com/experiments/readability/
I’m not sure how to fix it, though, if taking it off my bookmark bar and rebooting didn’t work….
    Thank you for your help!

You can find that out easy enough here > http://whatsmyuseragent.com/

OK, reporting back. I tried F5, and tried to upload a pic, same as before, it pretended it was going to upload and then offered to “save changes” that weren’t there.

Re: Clearing cache. When I had windows, I did this all the time, because I use AOL, and it gets bogged down very quickly. Well, when I did it on Ubuntu, I lost EVERYTHING. You can’t choose which things it will clear or not, only how recently it will clear, like today, last 2 hrs, etc. So, for example, I lost all my saved passwords and names, which, since I have memory impairment, was kind of a nightmare. If there was a way to selectively clear the cache, I would love to know. Maybe I will try to clear back as far as when I tested Readability, and see if that does it? I’m afraid it will clear all the bookmarks I’ve made today, too, but there it is.

I don’t think I have internet explorer on this computer…. I know I should, it’s something we haven’t dealt with yet. We’re still transferring documents….

    Sorry to be so clueless.

Time, btw, I saw your comment. Thank you, and I’m sorry. :-(
I cleared 4 hrs and didn’t work. BUT, I still have bookmarks made today, so that is promising. Going to clear last 24 hours, reboot, and try again.

    @after gadget.

WordPress.com blogs only allow a certain amount of disk space for your files you could be out.

Go to media, and at the top it will show how much you have left.

Thank you both so much, it is fixed! YAY!

I think it was that blasted bookmarklet — I thought I’d gotten rid of it, but it somehow messed up graphics and sound, which it is supposed to do on the page you’ve chosen it for, but not indescriminately. Clearing the cache of 24 hours and rebooting worked.

Thank you both for your time and patience.

Dreams, I will go look and see for future reference.

    Peace,
    Sharon

@Dreams, I know this is resolved, but I went and checked — I have 99.4% upload space left, so that is a relief! Thank you both!
