Sugestion about Last.fm widget

Automattic’s CEO is now saying that last.fm needs to code up a widget for use with wordpress.com before they can even consider adding one. So apparently you need to be nagging last.fm about this rather than sending feedbacks here.

“I’ve sent several feedbacks requesting a last.fm widget without acknoledgement or response.”

“Basically, they don’t have the time to pay attention to widget or theme requests”

I apologise. I actually do quite some more than listed by wank and it keeps me extremely busy.
I used to reply to every request email and now I don’t. I do try to get to most.
Some things are reasonable – last.fm – others not so. I had an email telling me that 1 million iphones had been sold and why wasn’t this domain geared up for it.

Theme requests get read. It’s absolutely true to say that many of them have a BBH too. (Big Blue Header to those that don’t follow these things).

One important thing to remember though is that not everyone who asks comes from the forum and not everyone in the forum asks. So while this thread is a good one for last.fm it might not balance so well with requests that otherwise come in direct to support. (Which is not saying anything about last.fm, I’m just trying to illustrate a point).

Do send them in and I apologise in advance if I do not always reply (but you’d also get fed up – “I keep sending them in and all I get is the same ‘we’ll look at it’ reply so I bet no-one reads it.”) so I could be on a lose-lose here :)

last.fm support would be indeed great.

The ability to publish Last.fm charts on wordpress.com blogs would be great.

    @cyberpunk and @ksavo
Did you send in your requests to support?

I’m wondering if everyone posting to this thread has actually read what Toni of Auomattic has said on wank’s blog. WordPress.com expects us bloggers to lobby lastfm into making a widget that is compatible with wordpress.com software. I would like one that displays playlists.

I saw that rather optimistic reply, Timethief, and several users have done exactly that. But the fact is that I can’t imagine that it applies here.

The thing is that the widgets we’ve all requested for WordPress already exist and they’ve been working for 6 months or so already on wp.org blogs.

I can only suspect, as others have suggested, that there must be an exclusivity clause somewhere in the sonorific deal. I can’t think of any other explanation, since the silence here has been absolutely deafening. That’s a little frustrating, but no worries.

Because in the meantime and until that sonorific deal runs out (which it surely must do, since sonorific is very limited) we have the lesser, old style, last fm sidebar tool and projectplaylist.com as alternatives, if we don’t want to go self-hosted.

They’re not perfect, but they work, at least.

I’m aware that the widgets are available because I have a wp install as well. And I agree this is probably a case of an exclusive deal with sonific. The maddening part of this all is the run around we have all got on this issue. If the answer is “no, there will be no lastfm widgets at wordpress.com” then IMHO then someone on staff should have the guts to just say so.

I would really appreciate if Last.fm would put together a special widget for WordPress, but I understand it may not happen for quite a while. Ah well.

Me too. I also would wish for the WordPress.com Team to port Last.fm widgets because they are tremendously awesome. People going to your blogs would knew and have a glimpse of who you are based on the songs / music you listen to. And I believe it is an essential part. I am thanking in advance the WordPress.com staffs and team if ever they include Last.fm widget. a/

    hawkw and andotyjazz
    – i take it that you read what staff had to say here in this thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=11417&page=2#post-125759
and then you acted on it by letting them know
