Suggestion: Confirmation or Delay Before Posts Publish

I’d like to suggest that WordPress consider adding either a confirmation button or a brief delay before a post is published. Today I had the experience of opening a post draft in order to edit it. In the process of scrolling down to the text I wanted to edit, the “Publish” button must have activated, and before I knew it, my draft (which was very much in progress and not suitable for publication yet) was published and emailed out to my followers. I cannot explain why the “Publish” button activated as I literally hadn’t clicked anything, but assume there was some spottiness in my internet connection that caused the cursor to jump.

Once or twice in the past, I’ve had this happen when editing a post and accidentally hitting “Publish” instead of “Save Draft.” In these earlier instances, it was my mistake. However, WordPress could save a lot of embarrassment simply by following the lead of Google, Kickstarter, and your run-of-the-mill retailer and adding either a confirmation step after a user hits “Publish” or a brief, 30-second delay between the user hitting “Publish” and the post appearing to the public.

This is something I’ve thought for a long time, but after today’s experience, wanted to take the time to leave this feedback.

    Thank you.

This has happened with me once too. Is there a way around it?

I agree. It would be really nice to have a delay of maybe a couple of minutes, and also a button to Undo the Publish. The Publish button is just too close to the Save Draft button, and I do sometimes hit it by accident.

Also, the Save Draft button’s position changes depending on whether you’re editing an already published post vs a current draft. I feel like this leads to Publish mistakes, too.

As this is a recent thread, and very much on this same “fear” of publishing prematurely….

Is there any way to activate the different automatic “grammar correction” features without hitting the “Publish” button and being given the “Ok” or “Cancel to fix [the WP identified] problems”?

I can’t find how to activate this anywhere without hitting the dreaded “Publish” button.

    Thanks!

We have save draft links in the Publish module for both posts and pages. See the image here please https://i1.wp.com/en.support.files.wordpress.com/2014/02/publish-immediately-edit.png I always use save draft and frequently edit my posts more than once before I click the publish button.

Actually, it was as simple and stupid as turning on the ‘abc ✔️’ button on the post creation page.

Didn’t know how to describe the response window that generated just after hitting the ‘publish’ button which turns it on. 😖

    Thanks!
