Suggestion for Sign Up Page
-
Yesterday when I signed up for my blog the email you sent with my assigned password got caught in the spam filter of my email service. Perhaps you should put a warning message on the sign up screen giving the exact email address that you will use to send the password and instruct the new user to make sure to add that email address to the spam filter’s white list.

Actually that’s a sign of a misconfigured mail server over at your ISP. It’s dropping emails sent via a PHP mailer into the spam filler. Why not encourage your ISP to fix their issue because you’re going to keep hitting it?

I see a fair number of these sort of things:
“Hi, it’s Bob here!
I hate spam like you so I use Spam Arrest…”
and I am then invited to authenticate myself seeing as that message usually comes to me.People have signed up for a blog at wordpress.com
Here at wordpress.com it says on the page that you will need to click an emailed link to activate your wordpress.com blog.
Quite why people do not connect the ‘wordpress.com’ to their spam measures is beyond me. It’s pretty clear where the email will be coming from.(And no, I will not authenticate.)

About 5% of our support load here. I tell the company I contract out my support to not to authenticate either nor do I. If you can’t remember to add in the address you just sent an email off to, sorry. Annoying part about it though is our system generates a new ticket for some of them since they change the subject of the email in question, a “We got your support request” email would go out, it would generate another C/R email from the user, and back and forth we go. We had to get the writers of our support desk to come up with a patch on that one. Lots of fun.
Don’t we have an FAQ about not getting your confirm email? Maybe that should be added to it.
This is probably one of the reasons why WP.com doesn’t support all those suggestions concerning email items here like “I wanna send an email when my blog gets updated” requests.
