Suggestion: Ignore posts with tag spam

I see no reason why a post should ever need more than about 20 tags at most. There seems to be an increasing amount of “tag spam”, where posts are tagged with many things irrelevant to the topic. Some posts, like all in this blog have tag lists that are sometimes longer than the article.

The proliferation of these posts which attempt to tag everything is making the tag search much less useful. My google home page shows me the most recent 10 posts on Hinduism from the RSS feed – often now only one or two have anything to do wit the topic. Would it be possible to have an option to ignore any posts with more than say 20 tags in the tag search. If I am searching on Hinduism, eczema, or adoption I don’t want some Christian Fundamentalist’s looney rantings about video games, all of which have these and many other tags in the aforementioned blog.

Well if someone posts a top 50 list, they might list all 50 names as tags. And different sub categories.

  • Posts with too many tags are already excluded from tag listings and the tag surfer. That’s been the case for a long time.

Spam still gets through to tag surfer, but you can Report as Spam. Open up the blog, then go to upper right corner of dashboard and open the drop-down menu. Choose Report as Spam, which brings up another page. You don’t have to get into detail as to why you think it’s spam – usually just one modlook will be enough to get it zapped.

The mentioned has 730 tags, and it appears in the tag RSS feed. It appears that though articles with many tags are excluded from the surfer they are not excluded from the RSS feed. (I had assumed that both would display the same thing).

It would be useful to have them excluded from the RSS feed for the tag search also.
