Suggestion re: "The backup of this post in your browser is different from…"

    I would like to suggest you add a checkbox somewhere to disable the “The backup of this post in your browser is different from the version below” message which pops up *almost* every time I save. I save a lot.

    I get this message *almost* constantly on ALL my ten or so sites.

    I have seen that people have been posting about their frustrations with this message for years. All the replies from well intended support staff who try to address the specific user/instance but not the big picture.

    Would it be that difficult to just add a checkbox somewhere that says, “Disable the … message”?

    While we’re at it, can anyone explain how this message makes any sense in the first place? I mean, this message only pops up when you press save so OF COURSE the backup is different.

    I used to implement and manage tech support desks for government ministries. There was a process called “escalation” which meant passing an issue to a higher level of authority. Can we escalate this please to an administrative level that can address the bigger picture?

    Hi there,

    The browser autosave feature is part of the core WordPress software itself, and not a WordPress.com-specific feature. So any change in this regard will have to come from WordPress.org where that software is made.

    If you want to suggest this as an enhancement, their forum at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/requests-and-feedback/ is the best place to do that.

    However, you should not be seeing that when you manually save a draft. That notice should only appear after a browser refresh that took place without saving first.

    If you’re seeing that message every time after an explicit save, it could point to a browser issue. Please check if clearing the browser cache makes any difference, or if the same thing happens if you work on your post in another browser.
