Suits Theme: Instagram photos in post are not displayed
-
Hi,
I’m trying to insert an Instagram photo in one of my posts but it is not displaying. I tried typing the URL of the photo on a separate line and using the Instagram shortcode but both methods did not work. Is Instagram not supported by the theme or is this a bug? Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, I tested and was able to display an Instagram embed on my test site running Suits, so I’d like to take a look directly. Could you provide a link to a post where you tried to do an Instagram embed but it didn’t work? It’s OK if it’s a draft post, I’ll be able to see it. Thanks!

Hi there, here’s a link to a post that should be displaying an Instagram photo:
My Instagram account is on private, but I swear that I was able to view embedded Instagram images before. Were there any changes that could have affected this? I tested with a public Instagram account and it works fine. Thanks, Kathryn.

Hi Angus, according to our research and testing, Instagram embeds from private accounts are generally not permitted by Instagram:
Is your content private? Then nothing has changed. Embed code is only available to those whose photos and videos are public.

There seems to be a workaround where if you share your image via Twitter first, the embed code will then work, as Instagram then considers the photo only semi-private, since you’ve shared it on Twitter first.
It’s possible that something has changed on Instagram’s end since you last embedded a private photo, but our engineers verified nothing has changed on our end. If you haven’t shared your photos on Twitter first, it looks like you will not be able to embed them on your WordPress.com site, due to the way Instagram’s permissions are set up on their end.

Hi Kathryn, thanks for the info. I’m happy that there’s a workaround, but I don’t use Twitter. I do share my Instagram photos on Facebook, but apparently, that is not the workaround.

Hi Angus,
Sharing the photos on Facebook won’t help because Facebook posts can be restricted or made private.
If you have any other questions, please let us know. Thanks!

Can I leap in on this discussion too?!
I’m trying to embed an Instagram pic on a post. I’ve used both the embed method (i.e. going to the actual pic on Instagram and grabbing the code) and just inputting the picture’s Instagram URL. But both times I get the box and the caption, but no photo and no ‘instagram’ logo
When I post the code in HTML then go to visual it changes the code bizarrely!
This is the site I’m trying to add it to is http://www.thestickyfingersblog.com
It uses at Twenty Ten theme and my Instagram account is public
It is driving me MAD. I’ve searched and searched by can’t find any answer! -

Hi @taracain9,
Have you tried posting the raw link to the Instagram photo?
This guide has more details on Instagram embeds:

If you’re still having any trouble, please let us know.

Yes I’ve tried that Kev. Followed every guide going!
I wonder if it’s something in my theme’s code but no idea what or why it’s doing it
I’ve searched high and low for someone else with the same problem – surely it can’t JUST be me! – but no one has the answer. It’s a mystery! -
Since thestickyfingersblog.com is a self-hosted site, we don’t have access to the site and cannot provide direct support in this forum.
However, if you install the Jetpack plugin and activate the Shortcode Embeds module, the Instagram links should automatically be embedded.

I already had Shortcode Embeds enabled. So I disabled it then reenabled it, BUT still doesn’t work!
I guess it’s going to remain a mystery -
@taracain9: It looks like there is an issue with Jetpack’s connection on your site. I suspect that may be responsible for the issue you’re having with the embeds.
Can you please use Jetpack’s Debugger module to send the Jetpack team some more information about your site?
1) Go to the Jetpack page in your dashboard.
2) Click on “Help” tab in the upper right side of the page and click the link for “Jetpack Debugging Center.”
3) Click the link that says “click here to contact Jetpack support.”
4) Fill in the description box and your name and email address.
5) Click the “Contact Support” button. We’ll take a look at those results, and followup via email. Thanks!
