Suits Theme menu does not work on mobile

  • Unknown's avatar

I am a new user who has created a basic, free WordPress site.

I installed the Suits theme, and everything looks fine to me on PC. But in the mobile version, only the Home menu tab shows.

I can not edit CSS because I am a free user.

I have already tried confirming settings in /wp-admin version of site: appearance => mobile => enable mobile theme => no

I heard that I may need to deactivate all plugins, but I don’t know how to do that.

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

That theme is a a responsive layout theme. The mobile ready theme is a default theme and a completely different theme that you do not need to enable, if your theme is listed as a responsive layout theme here https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/responsive-layout/

The mobile default theme is provided for those who run older themes that aren’t the gold standard which is responsive layout.

A responsive layout theme adapts to different screen sizes so that your website will work (and be optimized for) iPhones, iPads, Android and other mobile devices. When responsive width themes are viewed on mobiles sidebars appear below the posts in order to provide as much space as possible for reading.

When we use a responsive theme we disable the mobile theme. Go to >Dashboard > Appearance > Mobile and disable the mobile theme

    http:/NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php?page=mobile-options

    * Replace NAME_OF_BLOG withe the actual name of your blog in that URL.

You can read more in the support docs at https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/mobile-themes/

You can test your site at this link https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/

    Thank you for your response!

As I noted above, I have already made sure that “enable mobile theme” is set to “no.” My site works on mobile, but only shows the “Home” tab. On mobile, the other three tabs I have assigned to the menu do not show up.

  • Hi @jamesmfaith!

You don’t need to deactivate anything – those instructions were for a different kind of WordPress site than the one you are running.

When you view your site on mobile, there will be only one menu tab (that’s normal)

It should say Menu and not Home though.

When you tap Menu on mobile, it will display all of the other menu items in a list. It does this because most mobile screens are too narrow for a horizontal menu to work :)

Can you test the site on y our mobile device, and let me know if it’s working as I’ve described? If it is showing a “Home” link, a screenshot would be helpful to take a look at, along with details like:

    – what kind of mobile device are you using
    – what version is the device’s software at
    – what browser are you using

Let me know what you find!

WOW, I feel dumb. Sure enough, the tab says Menu and not Home. Tapping the menu icon brings up my menu. I must not have been paying enough attention before.

Problem solved – Thank you very much!

  • You’re welcome! :) Glad it’s better now!
