summaries of posts, can’t get it done

  Hi.

  I wanted to show only summaries of posts in the categories, archives and the main page.

  I tried options –> reading –> For each article, show: Summary

  But this doesn’t seem to work.

  I’m sorry but we cannot edit our themes at wordpress.com and what you are asking for would require that. As we at wordpress.com are all on the same multiuser blogging platform if you could edit your theme it would mean everyone else using the same theme would have the same thing happen to their blogs. We can set our rss feeds to summary but that’s all we can do.

  If you want the ability to edit your theme then you can either move to self hosting or hire a web host and download a regular worpress theme from http://wordpress.org as they run on different software.   Actually the archives and search results normally default to just the first 100 characters or so. They normally use a different function call than the standard home page and the individual post pages. (the_excerpt() vs the_content() for those scoring at home)

  For the main page, just use the more tag. It’s the button labeled ‘more’ on the standard editor and icon that looks like a page of paper with the dashed line going through it with the rich text editor.

  I don’t see a blog here under your username. Are you even hosted here at wp.com?

  I use the script on my own domains.
  for example http://www.vandaar.eu

  also I was wondering about the google duplicate content rule.

  I much rather have summaries of my posts, especially on the homepage.
  And I thought I had seen it on other blogs

  Perhaps I need to edit my template files ?

  You misunderstand my question. Is this for a blog here at wp.com or elsewhere? It’s important.

  Please point at the blog where you want this to occur.

  If it’s hosted elsewhere, you need to be over at http://wordpress.org as you would be running different software that we do here at wp.com. Our answers would be different.
