Summaries of Posts on Main page

  My bolg entries tend to be long. How can I make it so that only a short excerpt shows up on the main page and then readers can click a link to read the whole thing?

  (1) If you have not turned the text rich editor off then use icon 13 (it looks like a page with a line through it) to break the text. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/15/what-do-all-the-icons-mean/

  (2) If you are using the standard editor click the [more] button to break the text.

  (3) If you are hand coding then insert <!–more–> where you want the break in text to occur.

  (4) If you don’t like the wording automatically supplied by the theme then you can hand code in <!–more(your words go here without the brackets)!–>

  Do note on #4 there, there’s a space between the ‘more’ bit and the opening ‘(‘ mark.
